Get Up and Go Wheatgrass, Pear, Apple and Ginger Shot

By Sue Bedford (MSc Nutritional Therapy)

Why not start the day off feeling great with this rejuvenating energy shot………..

Wheatgrass is the young shoots of wheat, or Triticum Aestivum, and is packed full of vitamins and minerals. It is also an excellent source of chlorophyll. It is considered to provide all 9 amino acids as well as 13 of the 16 nonessential amino acids.

Pears are a great source of polyphenol antioxidants – helping to ‘zap’ those free radicals which may lead to oxidative stress and cell damage. They are a low GL fruit (meaning that sugar is released very slowly into the blood stream from them) and are a great source of folate, vitamin C, copper, and potassium.

Apples (or fresh apple juice) help support the immune system as they are also rich in vitamin c, antioxidants and contain many plant compounds including Quercetin (a great anti -inflammatory). They are also a low GL fruit.

Ginger is great in shots as it provides a powerful kick, but is also linked to helping alleviate gastrointestinal issues, plays a role in reducing inflammation in the body, supports the immune system, rejuvenates skin and increases energy levels. It also contains anti- microbial properties. Ginger contains many important nutrients and vitamins including vitamin C, B5 and B6, along with a good amount of the mineral’s potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium.

All of these amazing ingredients combined together pack a great nutritional punch which not only provide us with energy and help to reduce inflammation, they are also great for the skin and provide support to the immune system.
