Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory Gut- loving Smoothie bowl

Start the day off in a great way with this lovely pink smoothie bowl. Berries are a fantastic source of antioxidants as-well as vitamins, minerals and fibre to help ‘zap’ those free radicals that can lead to oxidative stress in cells and thus helping prevent damage to the DNA, including the egg and sperm cells. They also help with cognitive function, keeping the brain healthy and helping lower inflammation in the body.

Avocados are amazing! They help balance hormones and sugar levels too (they don’t contain much carbohydrate), contain beneficial fats including oleic acid and alpha-linolenic (an omega 3 fatty acid), and contain over twenty vitamins, minerals and vital nutrients including vitamins B, C and E.

Kefir is great for gut health as it contains many strains of ‘good’ bacteria which have a knock-on effect on all health, including the immune system, brain health, skin health and fertility (just a few examples).

Kale is packed full with antioxidants and nutrients. In addition to conventional antioxidants like vitamin C, beta-carotene, and manganese, Kale also provides us with at least 45 different recently discovered flavonoids, including kaempferol and quercetin. Many of the flavonoids in Kale are also now known to function not only as antioxidants, but also as anti-inflammatory compounds.  Kale contains phyto-nutrients (particularly rich in Lutein and zeaxanthin) which are known to promote health by enhancing the immune system, repairing damage to and protecting cells, and removing harmful products from the body, aswell as reducing inflammation. This makes Kale a fantastic choice for providing a healthy diet for fertility, especially for those with Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or Endometriosis.

Honey possesses an array of plant chemicals that act as antioxidants. It also contains antibacterial and antifungal properties (in particular raw and manuka honey).

Ingredients:

1 medium ripe avocado (this helps to make the smoothie extra smooth and creamy!)

A few handfuls / 200g of berries such as strawberries and raspberries for a pink look or blueberries if you want purple! – fresh or frozen

200g kefir or organic live yoghurt A handful of kale

1 tsp honey

Method

Add to blender and whizz until smooth and creamy. Decorate your smoothie bowl with extra fruit, nuts and seeds over the top. Enjoy for breakfast, or a snack.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
