IVF in the USA

Considering fertility treatment in the US? These are some of the factors that many choose this lovely country for their treatment.

IVF in the USA

If you're considering in vitro fertilization (IVF) as a way to build your family, you're not alone. According to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), nearly 174,000 babies were born through IVF in the United States in 2016. But before you take the plunge and start treatment, it's important to understand what goes into the cost of IVF and how you might be able to offset those expenses. In the US IVF can range from $15,000 to $30,000, depending on the center and the patient’s individual medication needs. Medications can account for up to 35% of those charges.Your insurance may cover some of the procedures or medications involved in a cycle, and there are also discount programs, grants and clinical studies that help qualified patients pay for all or part of the process.

Egg donation

If you're looking into using donor eggs as part of your IVF cycle, the price is going to depend on what options a clinic offers. Some fertility clinics have relationships with egg cryobanks and/or fresh egg donor agencies and either require or suggest that you work within their system. In that case, the clinic will likely present you with a base price that includes the cost of the eggs (typically in batches of six to eight) and some, but not all, medical expenses. As an example, frozen donor eggs base cycle fee: $14,000 to $20,000+ and fresh donor eggs base cycle fee: $27,000 to $47,000+. This fee is a starting point. Ask your clinic what is included in the price of an egg donor cycle and what additional charges to prepare for.

Surrogacy

If you are considering using a surrogate to help you have a child, you will want to know about the different types of surrogacy and the associated costs. There are two main types of surrogacy: gestational and traditional. In gestational surrogacy, the eggs used in the process come from either the intended parents or a donor. With traditional surrogacy, the eggs come from the surrogate herself. The cost of using a surrogate typically includes legal fees and medical expenses, as well as agency fees if you choose to use an agency. In all, expect to pay anywhere from $60,000 to $200,000.
