Spring into February and feel energised with this anti-inflammatory, antioxidant wellness shot.
Coconut water- is made from the clear liquid from the inside of green coconuts. It’s not to be confused with coconut milk, which is made from the water and the flesh from the inside of a mature coconut. It is fantastic for hydration as it contains natural electrolytes and is a great source of potassium – a brilliant post-workout drink. Low in calories, a good source of calcium, magnesium and packed full of antioxidants.
Ginger– Great for giving shots a kick but also to help alleviate gastrointestinal issues, plays a role in reducing inflammation in the body, supports the immune system, rejuvenates skin and increases energy levels. It also contains anti- microbial properties. Ginger contains many important nutrients and vitamins including vitamin C, B5 and B6, along with a good amount of the minerals potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium.
Turmeric -is an adaptogen (support the body’s natural ability to deal with stress) and contains a powerful compound called Curcumin which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The bioavailability of turmeric is increased when it is combined with black pepper and also healthy fats such as that found in avocado.
Lemons – Lemons are abundant in vitamin C and flavonoids, both powerful antioxidants, important in preventing free radical damage to cells, supporting the immune system, for skin health, increasing iron absorption from food, weight loss and the prevention of scurvy.
Sea Salt –when consumed within recommended amounts, can help you maintain adequate hydration and blood pressure levels. It contains some minerals, including potassium, iron, and calcium.
Honey – possesses an array of plant chemicals that act as antioxidants. It also contains antibacterial and antifungal properties (in particular raw and manuka honey).
These ingredients combined pack a great nutritional punch that not only helps to hydrate our cells but provides anti- inflammatory and antioxidant benefits too which help support the immune system.
